Classes
Dance classes offer a number of benefits that can help your child grow and develop in a variety of ways. At KIO Dance in East Lansing, MI, we strive to provide a strong caring environment to help encourage this growth. With our wide variety of classes, your child will have ample opportunity to explore their interests and discover which style is right for them. Read more about the classes we offer! We offer recreational and competitive classes for all ages and levels of ability. For our competitive program, we do not do auditions, we do evaluations. Dancers are put in the appropriate level for their ability and everyone gets a chance to dance and compete.
Parent/student Portal
We have adopted a new studio office service with a great vendor called Class Manager. They provide a powerful online registration platform with effective communication tools and much more. They help take care of the logistics so studios can keep their focus on what matters most — engaging with their students and fostering their love for dance. This makes for a seamless experience with registering, billing, and communication. See the link below to login into the portal.
Training & Instruction
Our dance studio is home to the best and brightest instructors in the Greater Lansing area. With experience spanning decades and unparalleled talent, you’ll find incredible leadership and guidance in our dance instructors. A primary responsibility of dance teachers is technical instruction. However, this task does not simply involve demonstrating a particular technical skill, then having the dancers perform it. Rather, instruction is a complex interaction of physical, motor, psychological, and communication skills that occur between the dance teacher and dancers. As a result of this complexity, the education of teachers in the learning process is essential for sound teaching and effective skill acquisition. Our staff is always learning and developing new ways to train and instruct.
Master classes & Conventions
We are lucky enough to have some of the industries best come into our studio and do master classes. From Markus Shields, Anthony & Staci Lo Cascio, Brandon Girouard, Phil Orsano, Ashley Payne, Dr. Ew, and Ian Klein we have had some of the best in dance do master classes on-site in studio. We go yearly to Wild Dance intensive and Radix Dance Convention. Both our students and instructors receive training from the best in the industry. A very valuable opportunity.

The advantages of dance
There are so many reasons why dance is important to the health and development of our young people. Above all, children need to move! Any way to get kids moving on their feet is a must (especially in a digital era). Dance burns calories, strengthens muscles, improves balance, increases flexibility, and gives the heart a good workout. Dance has also been proven to increase cognitive development. Current research documents the importance of exercise on the brain and supports what dancers have always known – the body and mind are connected in vital ways.
Physical fitness
Dance workouts help you gain Physical fitness by incorporating high and low intensity intervals. These intervals challenge your heart rate and make you sweat, and you burn calories throughout the entire class. Gaining strength and endurance.
Strength
Muscular strength from Dance provides support to the joints for the dancer so as not to compromise alignment and to increase position stability. This allows the dancer the ability to maintain the position for longer.
 Cardio
Dance cardio is a hybrid of dance choreography and cardio exercises set to music, creating a heart-pumping workout to keep your body in constant motion. It’s the type of exercise that feels more like a party than anything else. Don’t be fooled though: this is a body-burning experience.
