BOLLYWOOD

Bollywood dancing is a colourful, dynamic and highly theatrical dance style seen in Indian films. It combines classical forms of dance including traditional Indian, folk, salsa, belly-dance while also incorporating more contemporary western forms such as hip hop, jazz and funk. Having no set rules, Bollywood dancing is the perfect means to encourage freedom of expression.

The word ‘Bollywood’ is the name given to the Indian film industry, originally deriving from ‘Bombay’ (now ‘Mumbai’) and ‘Hollywood’. Mumbai is the home of the Hindi (Indian) film industry which produces more than 1,000 films a year, attracting a much larger audience than Hollywood.

With no set rules, fitness requirement or age restrictions, Bollywood dancing is the perfect way to enjoy freedom of expression and connection with others.

Swathi Chitrapu

I am a Mom, Zumba instructor, and Dance Choreographer. Dance has always been my passion. I started when I was 3 years old and trained in Indian classical dance. I haven’t stopped dancing ever since. Having participated and won awards in high school and “the best expressions” award in an inter-college competition. I continue to take classes in all styles – Contemporary, Bollywood, Classical, and Western. Dance is my therapy, and my goal is to inspire compassion, respect and acceptance for all, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, and beliefs. I believe dance is for everyone. I am grateful and delighted to be a part of KIO team. Bollywood is on Saturday mornings from 11:00AM to 11:45AM.

Danielle Germaine

Growing up I took many dance classes and found it to be a great stress reliever and fulfilling hobby. However, as I transitioned into adulthood, other things took priority as I went to college eventually earning my Masters in Counseling to become a licensed therapist. Over time, dance and fitness became a smaller part of my life until it was non-existent. The pandemic was a huge turning point for me, I knew I had to make some big changes but was terrified of the next steps. I started with fitness classes at Kick It Out as a student and everything changed for me, my fear and anxiety regarding fitness slowly melted away and I became immersed in a world of dance, movement and fitness and never looked back. After years of being a student, I felt  empowered to become a certified Zumba Instructor and did so in March 2023. As a therapist by day, I also feel working out needs to be about embracing your body and self, enjoying the movements and letting go of stress and expectations. Outside of Zumba, I enjoy spending time with my dog Lola, reading, gardening, painting, crafting and spending time with my friends and family. I look forward to dancing with you!
